Sophie Garth Makeup Artist

KIA ORA, GORGEOUS!

I’m Sophie, your local makeup artist.

You probably already know this, but you’re most beautiful when you’re feeling confident. That’s why I love combining my makeup experience, airbrushing expertise, and unique vision to accentuate your loveliness and help you feel even more comfortable in your skin.

I’m in love with our planet, animals, and people, so my kit is cruelty-free, low waste, and in transition to being fully sustainable and kind on your face. I’m also committed to educating others about clean and eco-friendly choices.

I didn’t always know what I wanted to do, so my journey into makeup was an unorthodox one. I went from financing to photo retouching to studying makeup at Samala Robinson Academy. After graduating top of my class in 2011, I spent the first few years of my makeup career working mainly in editorial and commercial makeup in Auckland.

When my family moved to Tauranga in 2015, I had plenty of time to upskill, so I decided to teach myself airbrush makeup. I also had the space to reinvent myself and discovered my happy place - helping brides feel gorgeous on their special day.

During the past ten years, I’ve had many other amazing opportunities, including:

  • Having my bridal work featured in Together Journal and Wild Hearts.

  • Designing makeup looks for editorials in Ladygunn, Cake, and Headway mags.

  • Being the Makeup Designer and Key Artist for over 20 runways in the arena show Tarnished Frocks and Divas and subsequent documentary film Frocks and Divas.

  • Teaching makeup artistry and skincare at a tertiary level.

  • And, of course, doing makeup for all my stunning brides.

More recently, I’ve had the honour of being a guest speaker at various industry events and featured on One News and in The Listener, discussing sustainability in the cosmetics space. I’ve also launched an award winning podcast about the New Zealand makeup industry, aimed at empowering the entire industry and supporting my peers.

I’m also a Mumma (of two rambunctious grommies) who cares deeply about our impact on the planet and what we’re leaving behind for our kids. I hope to light a fire in others so they’ll care too.

A little bit more about me:

  • I love a good coffee (and I mean it has to be good).

  • I’m a pretty fabulous home cook.

  • It ain’t pretty, but I looove a good boogie.

  • And, I feel ridiculously lucky to be doing what I do!
